BeemNotch is a native macOS application built around a single principle: your data belongs to you. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, what it never touches, and the limited cases where third-party services come into play.
1. Summary
- 100% local by default. All BeemNotch modules — music controls, system monitor, clipboard, calendar, GitHub, etc. — run entirely on your device.
- No analytics, no telemetry. We do not track how you use the app, what you click, or which modules you enable.
- No account required. You purchase a license and use the app. There is no BeemNotch login.
- You control AI integrations. AI Agents only talk to providers you explicitly configure with your own API keys.
2. Data Processed Locally on Your Mac
To provide its features, BeemNotch reads information from macOS APIs and keeps it on your machine. This may include:
- Now Playing metadata (track, artist, artwork) from the system.
- System metrics such as CPU, memory, network, and battery.
- Clipboard history that you opt into storing.
- Calendar events you authorize via the macOS Calendar permission.
- Files you drop into the notch shelf.
- Connected device information (AirPods, trackpad, mouse battery).
This data is never transmitted to BeemNotch servers. It lives in your app sandbox and Keychain, and is deleted when you remove the app.
3. Permissions BeemNotch Requests
macOS will prompt you the first time a feature needs access. You can revoke any of these at any time from System Settings → Privacy & Security:
- Accessibility — for window and shortcut handling.
- Calendar / Reminders — for the agenda module.
- Bluetooth — for connected device battery levels.
- Notifications — to deliver in-notch alerts.
- Files & Folders — for the drop-shelf module.
4. Purchase & License
Payments are processed by our payment provider (Stripe and/or Paddle, depending on region). When you buy a license, the processor receives:
- Your email address (for license delivery and receipts).
- Billing and tax information required by law.
- Payment details — handled entirely by the processor; we never see your card number.
We store only your email address and license key in order to deliver, validate, and re-issue your license when needed.
5. AI Agents Module
The AI Agents module is opt-in. When you enable it and add an API key (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI), prompts and any context you choose to share are sent directly from your Mac to that provider. BeemNotch does not proxy, log, or store these requests.
Your interaction with that provider is governed by their privacy policy and terms — please review them before connecting an account.
6. Updates
BeemNotch checks for new versions by making an anonymous request to our update endpoint. This request contains the app version and macOS version — no identifiers, no personal data.
7. Children
BeemNotch is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
8. Your Rights
Since we only hold your email and license key, you can at any time request a copy, correction, or deletion of that data by emailing privacy@beemnotch.com. Deletion will invalidate your license.
9. Changes to This Policy
If we update this policy, the “Last updated” date above will change. Material changes will be announced via the app or on beemnotch.com.
